Overview

Westward is a conceptual art exhibition and accompanying catalog that invites viewers to reflect on the myths and realities of the American West. Through curated photography and essays, it challenges romanticized perceptions and encourages a deeper exploration of cultural, political, and economic narratives.

The Challenge

Design a 140-page exhibition catalog that transcends traditional documentation, offering a layered, introspective experience. The goal was to create a publication that not only showcases the artwork but also prompts readers to reconsider their preconceived notions of the American West.

The Solution

I curated a selection of artworks and essays, structuring the catalog into four thematic chapters. Each section combines high-resolution imagery with insightful commentary, fostering a dialogue between the visual and the textual. To enhance the tactile experience, I incorporated various paper types and textures, creating a physical journey that mirrors the conceptual exploration of the exhibition.

The Result

The final catalog serves as both a standalone piece and a companion to the exhibition, offering readers a multifaceted perspective on the American West. Its thoughtful design and content encourage ongoing reflection, extending the impact of the exhibition beyond the gallery space.
